Having a dog in the house can be great fun. But along with the fun comes a fair share of problems too. Seeing your dog pee throughout the house is definitely not a pleasant sight for sure. Getting dog shit off curtains or bed sheets could be another cause of annoyance. To ensure that the presence of your dog at home remains all fun and no worry, you need to impart proper house training. Training your dog as to how he is supposed to behave and live in the house is a must. The first and the foremost thing to do under house training would be to clearly define the living area for your dog. This living area could be anything, a small space in the bathroom or the kitchen. To let your dog know what exactly his living area is spend as much time as possible with him in that area. Now when the dog knows where to live, he must also know here to sleep. Designate a special bed for your dog. You need not get an architect to do this for you. The dog bed could be anything. You could go in for an open crate, a large towel or a bed sheet. Initially your dog may use his bed as the toilet but once he or she realizes that this is her bed, the problem will be solved. Establishing the toilet area of your dog would be the next thing to do. Take your dog to the same area whenever he needs to eliminate. This will acquaint the dog with the place where he is supposed to eliminate and also curb his habit of eliminating anywhere else in the house. One thing that you need to make sure of is that your dog has access to the toilet area each time he wishes to eliminate. Putting your dog on a regular feeding schedule is the most important thing you can do to inculcate a proper schedule. Feeding on the right time will mean eliminating on the right time too. This way you will be more aware of the elimination schedule of your dog. Inculcating the right habits in your dog is a must if you want to impart effective training. Now that you have done everything that you needed to impart proper house training, there are few things that you can do to speed up the process. For instance rewarding the dog each time he eliminates in the toilet area can be on great idea. However punishing your dog too hard for mistakes should be avoided. House training your dog is essential if you want your dog to be at peace and let you be at peace too. |
