| How to Build a Doghouse for Your Pet |
|
A comfortable shelter is a must have for your dog. And since you normally cannot buy these things from the market, you can either hire a plumber to build one or do it your self. If you plan to make your dog’s house yourself and thus save on the plumbing cost, here is a guide for you. Building a dog house first requires an estimation of the space needed by your pet dog. You can have an idea of this space by the full size that the breed of your dog achieves. That would be the maximum space required in the kennel. It has to be kept in mind that there are no universal dimensions to a doghouse. Ideally, a doghouse has to be of a dimension which is as tall as your dog and a little longer than its length. The width of the dog house can be decided by keeping in mind the available space. Once you have figured out all the dimensions of your dog, you can start making the dog house. For that you can carry out the following steps in the given order. 1. Cut out a flat wooden board as the base of all the construction. It should ideally be rectangular in shape. Care should be taken that its dimensions allow the dog to move around freely inside the house. This board will also act as the floor of the house. 2. Cut four long pieces of wood. If you intend to have a slanted roof on the doghouse, the ideal length could be 12 1/2" long. If you want a flat roof then make it suitably longer. Keep in mind that your dog should be able to stand inside the doghouse. Nail these four pieces upright into the board. 3. You can provide a wooden frame on the upper side of this skeleton structure. This would provide it with stability and firmness. However, it is optional. If you are slightly skilled in carpenting, you can do without it. 4. Construct the walls of the doghouse by nailing in horizontal planks on three side of the skeleton structure. Make sure that no nails are jutting out. They might prove injurious. 5. Design the front portion of the dog house and nail it in. Usually, the front-side is half cut in a horse shoe pattern and this forms the doorway. You can choose another pattern if you find the horse shoe pattern monotonous. 6. Finally, it is the time to construct the roof. If you have designed a box-shaped dog house then you can simply cut out a piece of wooden board of dimensions similar to the floor board and nail it on top of the dog house. However, if you have designed one with a slanting roof, you will have to either cut out or make a V pattern and fix two of these structures in inverted position on the two ends of the dog house. It will then look like a hut. You can finish it up by nailing in the horizontal planks. 7. At the end, you can paint the doghouse in whichever color or pattern you want. You can also decorate it with any type of accessories. |
