Getting a puppy in your home is not all about buying one and keeping it. There is a lot more stuff involved in it. And, if you happen to have kids at home then a new pup has to be taught to go along with them smoothly and not hurt them in any way. You actually need to train your dog to make sure that he behaves well with the children and befriends them.

Keep your pup around the children
To make your puppy learn and understand the ways of your children, make it a point that you let him roam around them normally. While the children are busy pursuing their everyday activities, the pup would get used to their habits and activities and may not react awkwardly. Gradually he would know that the children would not harm him in anyway and thus he would also behave in a friendly manner.

Make him used to the noise
Children generally scream and shout. To ensure that the puppy get used to these loud noises, let the children be loud as usual. Do not ask them to be quieter while he is around. This would help him keep realistic expectations from the children.

Teach him good games
The pup would learn whatever you teach him. So make sure that the children do not play tug games with the pup. This would teach him to fight with the children and leave a negative impact on his behavior. Instead teach him some simple and useful tricks and etiquettes like handshake or fetching things.

Teach basic commands
Make sure that your pup knows hp to react to the basic commands like sit, stay, come, and go. Once your pup knows these basic commands, you would not have problem controlling any aggressive or undesirable behavior in the puppy. This would also help you handle a situation while the dog may get aggressive towards your kid. Thus, it is a very important step to ensure complete safety of your children.

You must understand that even after following all these steps it would take time for your pup to adjust with your children. He may not respond initially but gradually he would get used to the ways of the children and get friendly with them. Also, you would have to ask your children to behave nicely with him so that he responds to the training as soon as possible.
