Taking care of a pet dog can be an ordeal for many people. It is not that tough a job, but many people tend to be intimidated by it. This is because people are probably not acquainted with the basics of taking care of your dog. Naturally, taking care of your dog is very different from taking care of other pets. You need to have or gain knowledge over a period of time about dog behavior. This can help you very much in taking care of your dog.

The first training that you have to provide your pup is potty training. Start when your pup is very young as it might become difficult to potty train once the pup grows up.

Grooming, brushing and feeding are just a few of the things that you need to know about when taking care of your pet dog.  Dogs need to be tamed and handled properly. Feeding dogs the right kind of food at the right time is one of the most important aspects of taking care of a dog. You have to make sure that pet dogs, when they are teething do not land up eating anything they should not. This may result in blocking their intestines and you may lose your pet.

Provide your dog with chew toys so that it does not end up chewing on household objects. There are certain flowering plants that may be poisonous for your dog.  Try to get information about them and keep your dog away from those plants. You should also keep other pesticides and chemicals out of the reach of pets to prevent accidental poisoning.

Dogs need to have their skin and fur groomed very well. They need to be exercised or taken out for long walks and you need to spend time with them. A long walk is good for dogs that are very active as it helps them to use up their energy and prevents them from becoming restless. You need to provide dogs with warm clothing during winters.

It is always a good idea to get to know about these things before you actually bring in a pet dog and make it a part of your family.
