Potential Behavioral Problems with Dogs
You have a friend at your door. Before you greet him properly your dog leaps on him, happily giving him the most soiled welcome. His muddy paws have already spoiled your guest’s finely creased outfit. As soon as you realize the blunders your dog is making, you yell by your dog’s name. Though your pup backs off but it has already perfect created the place for a sheepish apology.

And what more as soon as you are trying to settle down for that perfect conversation, your canine friend starts breaking and is no mood to keep shut.

The situation may seem similar to many pet owners. While you may wonder what makes your dog do so, the dog feels nothing special about his default behavior. There are certain inborn characteristics of these species that the owner needs to understand and deal with it too.

Aggression
This is perhaps the most common behavioral problem with dogs. Aggression can be put across as any harmful behavior depicted by the dog. There are quite a few things that come under the scanner of aggression such as growling, nipping, biting, and snarling. If your dog exhibits any such behavior don’t consider him to be abnormal. These are completely natural traits of your dog.

There is no specified solution as such of dealing with aggressive behavior. You could use certain techniques or a combination of some techniques to alter the behavior. These could be drug therapy, surgery, avoidance and management. Giving your dog ample exercise may help.

Excessive barking
This is another common potential behavioral problem with dogs. To have your dog bark all night long will not just disrupt your sleep but ruin your neighbors’ peace too. There can be several causes for this problem. Your dog could be barking simply because he is trying to deviate the attention of the owner towards himself. Or the cause could be slightly complicated like some medical problem.

Reaction to specific stimuli can be another important cause. The treatment of this problem depends upon the cause of the problem. For instance, if your dog is barking only to get your attention then the solution would lie in ignoring him completely. Or, if your dog barks excessively in response to particular stimuli, that stimuli should be avoided completely.

Chewing
Many a times your dog may be in the habit of chewing everything that comes his way. This chewing behavior may be a result of curiosity where in your dog may chew something to find out what exactly it is. Anxiety could be another cause that leads to chewing. To get rid of this problem there is a lot that you can do. Removing all the things that your pup can chew is one option or you could even get your dog chew toys.
