Going out with your dog is surely a lot of fun. Dogs too love to travel in cars. They enjoy such rides and are also a source of enjoyment for you. But, traveling with your dog in car is definitely not sans precautions. You need to take care of certain things while traveling with your dog. Here are a few steps that would guide you on how to travel with your dog in car:

* Let your pooch wander in and around the car with the motor off. This will help him get to know the vehicle. You could start with short trips and then when your dog gets used to traveling, you could take him on long trips too.

* Safety for yourself and your dog has to be your prime objective. Traveling in the car with your dog in your lap is not a very good idea. Teach your pet to ride in the back seat or the rear of your car. Train him to go and sit on his designated place every time you take him out.

* Buying a car seat is also a solution to the problem. If you have a car seat for your dog, he has more chances of going and sitting on the particular seat while you are driving. Buying a car seat that can be fastened with the help of seat belts is a good idea.

* Your dog has to behave just like other human travelers. Make sure that he does not roam around in the car. For this purpose you could use safety belt that would make him sit at one fixed place throughout the journey.

* Before you leave out for a journey with our dog, check for dog collar and dog tag. They must be in place so that he may not get lost even if he goes away from you.

* A parked car with your dog inside it is an invitation to heat stroke for you dog. Never eave your dog in the parked car unattended as this may lead to heat stroke for him.

 * Even despite all your efforts, if your dog shows signs of car sickness, consult your veterinarian immediately. He would be able to guide you on what can be done about it. Never give any medications to your dog yourself to treat this problem and let your vet handle it.

With all these steps in place you are all set to roll out traveling with our dog with minimum problems. You could also avoid giving him any food 2-4 hours prior traveling as this would greatly help the puppy from developing car sickness.
