| Dog Training - Invisible Fences |
|
If you are living in a rural environment and have a dog, then one of the problems you might be facing is preventing your dog from venturing too far away from the boundary of your farm or country house. You might want to install a regular fence. That may not be possible if homeowner associations in your area have agreed not to build fences in order to preserve the natural beauty of the surroundings. In order to prevent your pet dog from wandering too far away, you might want to install an invisible fence. An invisible fence consists of running underground wires that you install on the perimeter of your boundary. The wires carry current that activates a collar that the dog wears and gives it a shock when it approaches the boundary wall. Such an invisible fence may not be very effective in keeping your dog within your boundary. Additional training and supervision of your dog may be required. First of all, if your dog is of a breed that is aggressive and playful, then a minor shock is not going to stop it from exploring what lies beyond. On the other hand, if your breed is a timid one, then the experience of a shock just might condition and discourage it from even venturing outside the house. If your dog has thick fur or skin, then it might not feel the shock. You would have to cut off some of the hair from the neck so that it can feel the shock from the collar. An invisible fence may prevent your dog from going out, but it is not going to prevent wild animals or predators from coming into your land. Invisible fences might not be an effective solution under the circumstances. You could put your dog on an adjustable leash that allows it to go outside and only up to your boundary. |
