| Dog Training: Crating Your Puppy |

Now that you have brought home a puppy, there are certain decisions that you need to make about where you are going to keep your dog. Do you want to keep your pet in a doghouse or indoors? One way out of this dilemma is that you can keep your pet in a dog crate. A dog crate does is not a very cruel way to keep your dog, as many dog owners may think. As long as you use it sensibly and not for very extended periods of time, there can be numerous advantages of a dog crate. If you use a dog crate, then you can make your pet identify with a location, that it can call its own. Of course, you have to convince the pet that the crate is for its own good. There is no point in forcing the pet into the crate. Training it and motivating it to move into the crate at night is a much better idea. A crate is a very useful way of housebreaking a pet, since a dog usually never answers the call of nature next to where it sleeps. As long as you take it out of the crate in time, you can spare yourself from the bother of cleaning up. You are going out to work somewhere and you do not want to let your dog roam around freely since you are worried that it might chew on your furniture, wires and other household items. Dogs are known to do these sorts of things when they get anxious. When you leave them alone in the house, dog’s can become very anxious. It is okay to leave them in a crate as long as you do not leave them in the crate for a long time and you keep a bowl of water close by. If used sensibly, doggie crates can be used in a number of ways to train animals and help them cope with separation anxiety. A dog crate is essential if for some reason you need to transport your pet and you cannot take it along with you in the car or on a flight. |
