However, firework displays might not bode too well for your pet. While these can be undoubtedly visually appealing, the noise that accompanies firework displays can be disturbing as well as discomforting for your pet. Quite unlike the ears of humans, their ears are more sensitive. The deafening sound accompanying the display might terrify them or may even hurt their ear.
The most spontaneous response that your pet might give when placed in a situation like this is to run away. Pets also tend to relieve themselves of the panic and anxiety by barking excessively. However, it has been observed that they mostly run away from the venue of firework, looking for a quiet refuge and getting lost in the process.
Keeping all these things in mind, it is better that you skip the firework display on the New Year’s Eve and instead ensure the safety of your pet. Following are a few things that you can do to ensure your pet’s safety.
* Ensure that there is some sort of identification tag on the collar of your pet. This might help anybody who finds it to return it to your house.
* If you cannot avoid the temptation of a firework display, it is best that you leave your pet in your house. If you cannot do both then the only thing that you can do is to enjoy the display from an audibly safe distance.
* If the display is happening in the neighborhood it is best that you shift your pet to a room which would provide it with some protection from the sound. Any enclosed space would do. Basements, garages or the laundry room would be the perfect for a night’s stay. You can further sound-proof the room if necessary.
Pets are extremely valuable companions. Hence, care should be taken that no harm comes to them. If they feel lot more secured in your presence, then its best that you give it to them rather than enjoy a noisy and polluting firework display.
