This is the most popular option for pet owners who do not want to give their pet a latchkey treatment. Doggie day care is quite similar to crèches for children. Pet owners who are bound by time restrictions send their pets to doggie day care centers. Such centers prove to be the perfect avenue to socialize for your pet. He gets to meet various other dogs and is happy in their company while you are gone. These days, day care centers also offer various facilities like taking your dog for walk, grooming and even fixing appointments with the vet.

Pet sitting services
These days, you have professional pet sitters who can come home and take care of your pet when you are gone. These professional pet sitters are trained to handle dogs and cater to their needs efficiently. You can look up in your local directory to find a pet sitter in the nearby area. Make sure that you check for all the services that your pet sitter has to offer before you zero in on any particular one.

Pet dating
This is perhaps the most romantic way to indulge your pet while you are away. Usually, pet owners fix a play date for their pets. This keeps the pets engrossed with other beings of their breed. While the pets get company, the owners get a chance to return to their daily chores without amassing any guilt. Though pet dating is a relatively new trend, it is fast catching up.

Multiple pets
This may not be a complete alternative to latchkey treatment, but it can work well for latchkey dogs. If you just have one single pet then get another one. This will get your dog a companion. Both the pets can enjoy each other's company while you are away for work. Of course, it sill be a little expensive but there is nothing more than the overall health and wellness of your pet.

Doggie spa
Fix an appointment for your pet at the spa. Usually appointment at the spa takes a couple of hours. It will take time while your pooch gets his manicure, pedicure, bubble bath etc. While your pet gets pampered, you can go ahead and finish your chores. However, this is just a one-off option. You cannot send your pet to the spa on a regular basis.

You can try some of these alternatives. Though they will cost you some amount but they are better than subjecting your pet to mental and physical torture.
