Poodle- An Intelligent House Mate
The poodle is a distinctive looking dog breed. This dog breed is known to be one of the most intelligent dogs. The poodle is available in a number of sizes and colors. Poodles are good at dog sports and make for an agile breed.

The poodle is a people’s animal and is the best for houses where someone is around all the time. Since these dogs can suffer from extreme separation anxiety, they wouldn’t be great if you are working and have to leave your pet alone for a long time. While the standard poodle is good for houses with children, the miniature and toy varieties do well in homes with older children.

Appearance
The poodle has distinctive looks and can easily be distinguished from other dog breeds. The poodle usually comes in three varieties-standard, miniature and toy. Poodles have long and dense hair that grows all year long. This makes grooming extremely essential with these dogs. The coat of these dogs may be indifferent colors like silver, gray, cream, apricot, white, red or blue. Poodles may even have a Parti patterned coat.

Temperament
Loyalty and attachment connote the basic behavior of these dogs. The poodle can deeply attached to anyone in the family. Separation from a particular member may also result in separation anxiety. These dogs want someone around all the time.

Poodle is an intelligent breed. Their intelligent and instinctual behavior makes them apt for hunting purposes. Owing to the highly energetic nature of this dog, they have been used in circuses for along time. Poodles also make for excellent watch dogs.

Health
Poodles can be prone to several health problems. These problems may be serious or minor, depending on the variety of poodle you own. Standard poodles are susceptible to several illnesses. These may include Addison's disease, tracheal collapse, juvenile renal disease, gastric dilatation volvulus, sebaceous adenitis, thyroid issues, epilepsy, hip dysplasia, and cancer. Minor health issues such as ear infection are also common with these dogs.

Training
The poodle is easier to train as compared to many other dog breeds. Being an intelligent breed, these dogs are easier to train and quick to learn. To train the dog perfectly, it is important that socialization begins early.

Since the poodle is highly sensitive, they should never be meted out any harsh treatment. The pet owner should be firm yet gentle with these dogs. Give these dogs respect and be a little patient with them and they are sure to be the perfect learners.
