The Daschund breed is known alternatively as the Teckel. It is also affectionately referred to as a wiener because of its oblong sausage shape. The breed’s origin is from Germany. Earlier, dogs of this breed were meant to be trained as dogs that were meant for hunting large rodents. Gradually, the breed was brought into the category of pet dogs with intensive domestication, breeding and training.

If you want to own a daschund puppy or dog, you should know that it is very important to take good care of this breed. Daschund puppies happen to be very courageous and they can be aggressive when it is required.  Normally they are of a very calm temperament.

This breed is a hound dog. Obviously,  dogs of the breed possess exceptional smelling capabilities. The puppies of this breed happen to be hyperactive. Ideal weight for puppies of this breed ranges from 10 to 14 lb. The dogs need to be properly groomed and kept free of fleas and tics. The wire haired variety of this breed requires regular brushing.

Extensive training enables these small dogs to adapt to family environment. Once trained, they love to be with humans. They are wary of strangers or new-comers. Because of no genetic disorder and healthy physique, this dog happens to be free of most of the diseases prevalent among other dog breeds. The dog is susceptible however to spinal related problems. This is especially so in case the dog does not get enough exercise or is overweight.

Daschunds are noisy dogs when in an unfamiliar environment. They can however be good watch dogs. Since daschund puppies have a healthy appetite, they should be fed well and regularly.

All said and done, the breed is a wonderful canine companion.
