Hounds

Many amongst us love the idea of an outdoor adventure. While doing everything within the lap of nature is fun, there is nothing which can be as fun-filled as a legal hunting expedition. You can enjoy the activity in some countries of the world where game hunting is allowed in specific seasons of the year. And when you go there, don’t forget to take along the original breed of hunting dogs- Hounds.

Hounds, as it has been mentioned, were the original hunting dogs. They have pre-dated their modern counterparts by almost centuries. In the old times when game hunting was more of a bow-and-arrow affair, hounds were chiefly responsible for all the game that was captured. Today, though there use might have become limited due to strict gaming laws in place, hound dogs can still be an excellent addition to your outdoor adventure party.

Hounds are well known for their smelling capabilities and their agility in movement, something which made them valuable to hunters. In your outdoor adventure, you can make use of the breed’s sight and smell capabilities to accomplish a lot of exciting things. They can be used to track almost anything down, from children hiding in the woods to those elusive animals, such as foxes, which you might be looking for.

Hounds come in all shapes and sizes. While Irish wolfhound is the biggest amongst them all, dachshunds are small-legged ones. Keep in mind one thing. The size of dachshunds does not betray their amazing hunting capabilities. As a matter of fact, dachshunds are hounds only because of their lineage. It is more of a digger which, like terriers, loves the idea of chasing foxes and badgers hiding in their underground caves, things which you might end up doing in an outdoor adventure.

When it comes to choosing a hound for your outdoor adventure, you would be surprised that the options available are many. Some examples of them are the Afghan Hound, American  Foxhound, Basenji, Black and Tan Coonhound, Basset  Hound, Beagle, Borzoi, Bloodhound, Dachshund, English Foxhound, Harrier, Greyhound, Irish Wolfhound, Ibizan Hound, Norwegian Elkhound, Pharaoh Hound, Otterhound, Rhodesian Ridgeback, Scottish Deerhound and Saluki.

You can choose any one from the above mentioned breeds. All of them are adept in basic, and yet remarkable, hunting skills which can be utilized even in other areas. For instance, they can chase down anything, something which can be used to good purposes in the outdoor woods.

Hence, if you are somebody who loves an outdoor adventure in the woods, hounds can be the best companions that you can take along with you. They will not only protect you but will also assist you in your hunting needs. However, make sure that whatever you do is in accordance to the local game laws.
