Black German Shepherds are one of the most common and renowned of dog breeds. They are possibly one of the best of canine companions not only for you but also for your children and elderly relatives. German shepherds are generally adopted as working dogs who guard their owner's house, garden and other possessions or properties with their life. In return, they just demand your love and suitable care.

German shepherds are, on an average, 20-26 inches in height and weigh around 65 to 120 pounds.  Besides black, they may have a white, gray or tan colored coat. Black German Shepherds are very intelligent and clever dogs. With adequate and proper training, these dogs can be used as police dogs, protection dogs or guide dogs for the visually disabled or handicapped. You do however need professional trainers to train dogs of this breed.

As their name suggests, this breed was bred as herding dogs. Therefore, they love to chase moving objects such as bikes and cars. The puppies and dogs of this breed may give you trouble if you have a toddler at your home. They can nip at your running toddlers in the same way they do with other moving objects. You should keep your kid's toys far from their reach because they can leave them infected by chewing them.

Lately there have been various problems with the health of this dog’s breed and behaviour because of poor and unethical breeding practices. With long haired black German Shepherds, you need to be very particular about grooming. They need daily brushing and cleaning.

You also need to give proper potty training to your black German shepherds so that you can keep your house clean and tidy. Also, consult a good veterinarian for guidance on feeding, rearing and health as these are important issues you need to consider when bringing up a pup of ths breed.
