Designer Dog Breed - Meet the Roodle
There are many different types of dog breeds. Most of these breeds have evolved over a period of time and have their own peculiar characteristics and features. These breeds are stable breeds that have a large gene pool. Dog breeders have taken to mating dogs from two different breeds in order combine mix the characteristics of the two breeds in the offspring. These offspring are known as hybrid dogs.

The phrase designer dog has become a fashionable term. Fashionable and trendy people take to the term designer dog as it gives them the impression that the hybrid dog has specially been created for them. There are number of crossbred or designer dogs available. Celebrities like Paris Hilton are known to carry designer dogs in her handbag.

One very interesting example of a designer dog is the Roodle. It is a cross between a breed that is a very powerful and robust dog known as the Rottweiler and the poodle, a breed that is just the opposite in terms of size and temperament. This designer dog was first created by a breeder in the city of Melbourne Australia.

It has the intelligence of a Rottweiler but is docile in temperament and is easily trainable and manageable. This hybrid dog has the crinkly coat of a poodle. The dog does not molt or shed hair and is suitable for people who suffer from dog allergies.

The Roodle is indicative of the trend that has caught up with dog breeders and pet owners. Mixing two dog breeds and trying to obtain offspring that has the temperament of both parent breeds is a practice that has unfortunately caught on.

Unfortunate because of the offspring may not have the strengths of the two parent breeds and may inherit the weaknesses. Mating dogs of two different breeds to produce an offspring with inherited qualities is not as easy as it seems. This is something that only breeders with years of experience and knowledge should be doing.
