The smallest breed of dogs in the world is called the Chihuahuas. This dog is named after a region of Mexico that has the same name. Chihuahuas are believed to be the descendants of some larger breed of dogs. They have been associated with the Aztec royalty.
 
Many people believe that this breed of dogs was brought to the country of Spain by some Spanish merchants. This was done at the time of their trade with China. From china, this breed of dogs landed in the area of Mexico. In the end, this dog was brought to the US via Mexico by some of the traders.

Chihuahua is known for its large and erect ears. It is small in size and comes in two major varieties. One of the varieties is that with the small coat and the other is the one with the long coat. This dog comes in two wide ranges of heights. Generally, these dogs are tall to the extent of six to ten inches. The weight factor of this breed also varies to a much larger extent. Some of the dogs weigh up to 5 pounds while there are others that may weigh around 10 pounds.

These dogs also come in a wide range of colors like black, white and spotted grey. Some of them also come in the tricolored ranges. These dogs have a unique and clear cut personality and are known for their loyalty towards their owners. They are very intelligent and adapt themselves to the various places and environments because of their small size and stature.

The average life span of the dog called the Chihuahuas is almost 15 years. They are not a recommended breed for the families that have small children as they can easily harm or kill these dogs. As per the statistical research, these dogs love to focus on a relationship with a single person. These dogs are not comfortable with relationship in groups.
