Basenji Dogs Are Adorable and Energetic Pets
Basenji dogs are one of the most sought after of  breed of dogs. The breed is of a very calm temperament and is very affectionate.  They are just an ideal family dog because of their gentle manners. The dog is very agile and intelligent and should be handled with care and attention from a very young age.

One of the characteristics of these dogs is that they do not bark. They might howl or growl depending upon their mood.

The breed happens to be an ancient one although its present form is an outcome of various refinements. The dogs of this breed are also known as Congo Dogs. These are small dogs with a strong muscular built. Basenji dogs usually weigh around twenty to twenty four pounds. These dogs have very shiny skin.

A Basenji can prove to be an efficient watch dog. In Africa, these dogs are effectively used as guide dogs and warn people of dangerous animals nearby. Their intelligence and alertness make them perfect for the job.

On the flip side, Basenji dogs do not want to get along with unfamiliar faces and may be reserved with strangers until they get to know them well. They are not very reliable with small kids but get along perfectly well with older children. A Basenji enjoys the company of another Basenji. So, it is better if you own a pair of Basenji dogs. They will never fight and will be very happy together.

These dogs do not need a lot of grooming. They clean themselves just like cats do. These dogs possess a good appetite for workouts. They must be taken out for long walks, everyday. Basenji dogs area a great companion for health and fitness freaks.

A Basenji will have behavioral problems only if it is left unattended and uncared for. It is a very playful dog and needs to play with the owner and get enough physical exercise. It is a breed that responds very well to training and tries to please the master.
