Yorkshire Terrier
The Yorkshire Terrier or the Yorkie is a cute little dog and is a delight to have at home. This dog has its roots in the Terrier category and exhibits several traits of the family. The dog is the best for homes with grown up and considerate children, simply because of its small size and its ability to get out of control easily. Though the breed is loyal, brave and playful it can easily get yappy if not kept under the right leadership.

Appearance
This cute little dog has an ultra long, fine and silky coat. The hair is long and fall equally on either side of the body. A blue steel colored boy is perhaps the most peculiar trait of this dog. While the body and tail have a steel blue color, rest of the body is tan. Puppies, however, are typically black and tan.

Typically a yorkie should have a flat and not a round head. A medium sized muzzle also characterizes the breed. The Yorkshire Terrier has vivacious eyes that sparkle with intelligence. These dogs also have V shaped erect ears, which are not too far apart from each other.

Temperament
This small little dog is a highly adventurous breed and is always ready for some fun. The Yorkshire Terrier is always oozing with energy and is extremely brave. The dog makes for an absolute playful companion. Intelligence is a peculiar trait of this breed. The Yorkshire Terries is an above average, thinking breed and is one of the most intelligent dogs. These dogs are extremely clever and loyal too.

Health
Some of the most common health problems seen with Yorkies include bronchitis, lymphangiectasia, Portosystemic shunt, cataracts and keratitis sicca. At times some dogs may even react to injections. Another very common problem seen with this breed is their sensitive skin. These dogs are easily prone to allergic reactions. These allergies can be caused due to pollen, pollution or even food.

Training
Training yorkies is not all that difficult. These wonderful dogs are very easy to please and can be trained easily with consistent training. Since these are already very intelligent dogs, getting them to obey is not all that difficult. But if left on their own, they can develop bad habits really soon.

Socialization of your yorkie is a must. This makes him adjustable to the surroundings. Crate training proves to be of great help in training your Yorkshire Terrier. This will make your yorkie adaptable.
