Losing your pet is as bad as losing a member of the family. Pets offer us unconditional love and support. No wonder, dealing with the death of your beloved pooch can be quite tragic.

Stop denying
In most cases, the death of a pet is followed by denial. You may not want to believe that your pet has died. You may even try and run away from your feelings. Don't do that because the more you run away from your feelings, the more it will hurt you.

It's okay to be angry
Constant denials may lead to anger. You may be angry with the vet for not treating your pet or with your near ones not being able to help. You may even be angry with yourself for not being able to save your pet. While it is okay to be angry, make sure that you do not let these feelings last for long. Whenever you feel angry, think of something about your pet that made you smile.

Ask for help
Your pet's death is a loss and you feeling sad or depressed about it is only obvious. But, do not let the depression get on to you. Ask for help. Talk to people around and get out of the depression as soon as possible.

Understand you are not alone
There are so many people who will tell you that 'its just a dog'. Stop thinking of yourself as silly, over possessive or even over sensitive for that matter. There are so many others who feel equally attached to their dogs. Talk to people who understand the bond one can share with a pet and you will feel better.

Deal with the memories
You may not want to get rid of your pet's memories but sometimes the memories can become too painful to bear with. In such a case, simply keep the memories in a place where you cant see them everyday. For instance, you can keep your pet's belongings in the store room. Try re-arranging the room if your pet had a special corner.

Explain it to your kids
Helping your kids cope with the pet's death can be difficult. You need to be gentle yet firm. Do not hide things from your children. Stop lying to your kids. Be honest with them. Tell them that their dog has died. Let your children cry over it. But meanwhile, also try to bring back happy moments that they spent with the dog. You could encourage your kids to draw the picture of your dog or to write stories on him.

Coping with the death of your dog can be difficult for sure. But, with the above mentioned advise and some perseverance, you should be able to make through for sure.
