Correct nutrition is the key to keep your dog healthy and strong. To maintain a healthy state your dog requires appropriate daily intake of water, proteins, carbohydrates, fat, vitamins, and minerals. If you want to feed your dog with commercial food then you could ask your veterinarian to suggest a good dog food for you. Otherwise, you could ask him to guide you on preparing homemade dog food that would help you feed your pet optimally. Dogs can digest animal proteins more easily as compared to soy proteins and other vegetable proteins. Also, make sure that you do not over feed your dog just because the food that you are providing to him is easily digestible. If your dog happens to be ill then you must know that he is more in need of proteins and so they must be supplied to him. You must also make sure that you do not feed him with a diet too high in carbohydrates and fiber. It could lead to constipation, bloating, and other digestive problems. To make it easier for yourself to judge which food is good for your dog, you must know that foods high in vegetable proteins are also high in carbohydrates. Even if your dog is overweight, make sure that you give him certain amount of fats in his diet. They are important for him to maintain a healthy coat. Also, you must make sure that the food that you give to your dog has optimal vitamins. Lesser amount of vitamins can later lead to a lot many problems such as weak immune system. Water is an important part of all living beings and similar is the case with you. So, make sure that you give enough amount of water to your dog to keep his body well hydrated. Also, make sure that the food is not available in his bowl the whole day. The dogs that always have food in their bowls are more susceptible to becoming overweight. If at all your dog is overweight, a good exercise regimen is must to help him reduce excessive weight. You must also not be very generous while giving out treats to your dog. They may be your way of expressing love and appreciation for him but they are surely not very healthy. Similarly, food given outside the meal timings is again very unhealthy for your dog.
