Constipation in Dogs Is a Real Problem

A pet dog needs constant attention and care from its owner. It is very important for a dog owner to look after a dog’s health.  Dogs may suffer from a host of maladies. Constipation in dogs is a very common occurrence. It needs to be treated as early as possible. Otherwise, the dog may develop various other diseases. There are various complications can result because of constipation in dogs.

Strictures and tumors are considered to be primary causes of constipation in dogs. Aging dogs are more likely to become afflicted with this problem. Eating food that cannot be digested easily, often results in constipation. If a dog tends to vomit out regularly and is lethargic, then these may be signs of constipation. You must observe if your dog defecates properly once in a day.

A dog afflicted with constipation carries greater risk of developing complications of the colon. One of the possible conditions is the inability of the colon to expand and contract on its own. This is necessary in order to push the feces out of the body.

Once you have noticed that your puppy seems to be suffering from constipation, you must immediately visit a veterinarian to get it examined thoroughly. Doctor may opt for enemas to get the stool out of the dog's body. In certain severe cases doctor may have to perform a surgical operation to remove the stool out from the dog’s body.

Fluids are also injected in puppies intravenously to curb the problem. Laxatives are also an effective remedy to solve constipation. In order to prevent constipation among dogs, you should take care of their diet and make sure that they eat properly. Regular physical workouts of pets greatly reduce the chances of constipation.

You should look for symptoms of constipation in your pet and make sure that you visit your vet in case these symptoms take place over a long period of time.
