There are many different emergency situations that you may have to deal with if you have a pet dog in home. Some of them are discussed below-
Swallowing of medication
Pet dogs usually chew anything that they find fit for eating. So, in case your dog swallows the overdose of any normal medicine, take him to the vet immediately. However, a few medications can be harmful when taken even in small dosages. Your vet might ask when the dog ate the medicine, the weight of your dog and how much dosage was swallowed by your pet to determine if it is an emergency situation. In case of emergency, fluid therapy, vomiting and activated charcoal may be undertaken.
In case, your dog has met with an accident, don’t move him and wait for animal workers to come. You may contact the nearby ASPCA. If they do not seem to reach in time, you have to move the dog yourself. Slide a blanket below him very gently. Lift him very carefully without moving it much. Do not forget to check its heartbeat and bleeding. Cover the wound with a clean pad or cloth and hold it there for some time to avoid the excessive blood loss and take him to the vet immediately.
Heat stroke
Overheating can lead to heat stroke in dogs when they are unable to get sufficient air. Frothing from the mouth, vomiting, collapse and panting are the indications of heat stroke. If you observe these signs n your dog, immediately put him in some cold water in order to lower his body temperature. You may also take him into fresh air and take him to vet for treatment.
When your dog get stung
In case your dog is stung by any wasp or bee, you can clean the area gently and if you find a stinger there, remove it carefully. There are a few dogs that may have allergic reactions because of stings and bites. So, if your pet has been stung observe him for some hours to notice if there are any allergic reaction like swelling of muzzle and face, difficulty inbreathing, lethargy, vomiting and hives. Call your local vet immediately if you notice any of these symptoms.
Thus in case of emergency situations you must prepare yourself to tackle your dog properly so that you do not get bit by him and cure him effectively.
