This is a very common problem and needs to be addressed. It might annoy the neighbors if the dog goes into their yard and answers nature’s call. The one thing you have to remember is to be very patient and tactful and not to harshly scold the dog. If you do that, the dog may misunderstand and become fearful of urinating in front of you.
The dog needs to realize that it has made a mistake if it has urinated in the house. If it does so, you have to look at it and say no. The tone of your voice should not be very harsh. It should be strict, firm and yet polite. In order to correct this behavior you need to take the dog outside on a leash and utter the word poop a number of times.
Never leave the dog unattended and do not let it go out on its own. Many owners just let the dog out and let them do their business wherever they feel like. It may be convenient for the owner, but certainly no for the neighbor in case the dog spoils their yard. Always carry a poop bag when you take your dog out for a walk so that you can clean up after your dog.
