Water is not just important for human beings but dogs as well. As a matter of fact, water makes up for 80 % of your dog's body. Your dog's body needs water to perform various vital functions and regulate body temperature. Your pet may have to deal with numerous health problems if he loses even one tenth of the total body water. It is for this reason that it becomes more than important for every pet owner to take care of the dog's water requirements.

Be sure of the water
You should not provide your dog anything less than potable water. Make sure that the water is clean and tastes good. If your dog does not like the taste of water, he will not drink it which can lead to dehydration.

Also, make sure that your pet does not have water at the beach. Seawater can cause dehydration in your pet. Water from rivers and lakes too is bad for your pet as it contains ample bacteria. These bacteria can affect your pet's digestive system.

Easy access to water
Your dog should never have a difficult time drinking water, even if you are leaving your pet alone. Make sure that you leave ample water for your pet before you leave. Dogs have a tendency to knock off water when left alone. So, make sure that you leave two or more bowls of water.

You also need to be careful if you are chaining your dog. The bowl should not be kept too far away from your pet else he will have difficulty drinking water. Also, make sure that you carry a bottle of water for your pet whenever you take him out for a walk or hiking or any other outdoor activity. The more you make your pet exercise, the more water he needs.

Check the dog bowl
The dog bowl is of immediate concern if you wish to take care of your pet's water requirements. After all, it is the dog bowl that is used to serve water to your pet. The first thing that you need to make note of here is the type of dog bowl that you wish to use for your pet.

Many people prefer using plastic or stoneware bowls for their pet. But these bowls are not really a good choice. These bowls develop tiny cracks which serve as the perfect breeding ground for bacteria. On the other hand, plastic bowls easily develop scratches, which can again make the bowl more susceptible to bacteria. It is for this reason that most experts recommend using stainless bowls for pet dogs.

Irrespective of the kind of pet bowl you choose, it is important that you keep the bowl clean. So, you must wash the dog bowl everyday. If you use soap, make sure that there are no traces of soap left on the bowl.

Take care of your dog's water requirements and rest assured that he shall be in good health.
