One of the reasons that they may need our help is when they hurt their paws. Dogs have naturally adapted paws with cushions that help to prevent injury. In spite of being naturally adapted to walking barefoot, dogs may hurt their paws by walking on rough rocks, grass, soil, cement or ice. It is quite possible for a splinter for glass to hurt a dog’s paw. There is no way that a dog can prevent itself from injuring its paws in case it walks over a rough or a sharp surface.
If you have taken your dog out for a long walk, then make sure that his paws are okay after you have come back. It takes very little time and can prevent injuries and sores that will hurt the canine and prevent it from walking properly. You should check your pet very gently for injuries or sores if you notice it is limping or walking with an uneven gait.
Keeping your dog’s nails clipped regularly will help to prevent it from injuring itself. In case the paw is injured, then bandage the area with suitable ointments and make sure that the dog gets sufficient rest and does not exert the paw too much. This will give the paws time to heal. In case there is no improvement, then take your pet to a veterinarian for diagnosis advice and medication.
