Our pets are as susceptible to viruses, bacteria, and parasites as we are. So as a responsible pet owner we must take a very good care of our pets. The common dog problems can range from skin problems and allergies to serious diseases like, cancer. Let's know about them.

One of the most common dog health problems is related to the skin allergies. The dogs are usually allergic to things like house dust and dust mites. They can also develop skin problems through molds, pollens, fleas. Apart from this they can also develop allergy from the common dog food ingredients. Also their skin may catch some infection due to a change of season.

If your dog has a skin infection it will lick its paws excessively or paw at its ears or scratch its body. In case if the allergy is very serious the dog can also develop some hot spots on its body.

Ear infection is one of the other common health problems in dogs. It is especially common in species that have floppy ears. The infection is accompanied by a foul smell which is very strong. If your dog has this infection it will shake its head and scratch its ears regularly. The infection will cause the ear to become red and in some cases swollen.
Eye infections are also common to dogs.

Another common problem is the eye infection. One of the most common forms of eye infection in dogs is conjunctivitis. This problem is usually recognized by symptoms like, weeping or red eyes with a little discharge.

Respiratory infections are also very common in dogs, especially the Kennel Cough. It is a highly contagious respiratory infection caused by the Bordetella bronchiseptica, bacteria. The problem is identified by symptoms like, dry hacking and persistent cough. Also in some cases the dogs may develop foamy mucus. The infection can be treated but it may again appear 6-12 months later.

Apart from these small problems there are also some bigger problems like, arthritis and congenital heart diseases. Arthritis can be mild, moderate or even severe. It may also cause joint cartilage damage. As a result, the dog would find it difficult to get up. A dog with arthritis can be seen limping and walking slower than normal dogs.

If your dog suffers from any of these problems or you spot any of the above discussed symptoms, it is time for you to take your dog to a good veterinarian. The earlier the treatment starts, it will be easier to tackle the problem and keep your dog fit and healthy.
