There are a number of allergens in the environment that can cause allergies in dogs and cats. Some of the most common sources of allergies in pet dogs and cats are as follows.

One of the known allergens is pollen from flowering plants in the backyard or the park where you take your dog for a walk. Another allergen is dust that can be accumulated in several corners of the house. Mites and other tiny creatures that live in the dust can also cause allergies in pet cats and dogs. Molds and fungi are also known to cause allergies in dogs and cats.

These allergens may cause various types of allergic reactions. Dogs may start itching uncontrollably in various parts of the body. They might start sneezing or coughing. Loss of hair is another sigh to watch for as this may be on account of allergens.

Dogs and cats may exhibit these symptoms during the spring and summer months when plants are flowering and pollen is in abundance. Prevention is always better than cure as the old saying goes. Make sure that you clean the house very well and make it dust free. This will prevent allergies in pets and children that may be caused by dust or dust mites.

In order to treat pet allergy, the best way is to prevent the pet from being exposed to the known cause or allergens. In case you cannot determine what the known cause may be, you should take you pet to the vet and have it examined. The vet will be able to test for various allergens and prescribe anti-histamines or allergy shots that will prevent the pet from developing allergic reactions when it is exposed to allergens.
